Currently completing the IT Consultancy pathway of TDM’s BSc (Hons) Digital and Technology Solutions Professional Degree Apprenticeship, at Microsoft, we recently spoke to Oscar who shared his experience so far.
“As I neared the closing of my A-levels, I realised that I really enjoyed practical experience, building things hands-on, particularly in my subjects – one of those being A-level computer science.”
Reflecting on his choice to pursue an Apprenticeship, Oscar shares “I think it gave me the correct blend of kind of academic rigour while also giving me that work experience and that hands-on engagement”
“What’s beautiful about this is that I get to apply what I learn essentially instantly”
“There are so many people rooting for you, rooting for your success”
The BSc (Hons) Digital and Technology Solutions Professional Degree Apprenticeship provides learners with the ability to specialise in one of six specialist pathways, whilst completing core modules covering key tech skills.
“The fundamentals of software and networks and cybersecurity, all these things don't really change depending on the role that you're in within technology. They can be applicable anywhere.”
Having had the opportunity to work on a range of projects during his Apprenticeship so far, Oscar shares one project he was particularly proud of working on.
“I was entrusted with building out essentially four demonstrations for the customer, to play back to them…Owning that and kind of taking responsibility for that, being accountable for the delivery of that was such a massive learning and development moment.”
“Getting feedback from both the customer and from my wider teammates as well, it was probably the proudest moment that I've had here at Microsoft.”
“The way that the content is delivered by TDM is simply fantastic. I think that the coaches and the module leaders that we have assigned to us to deliver that content and support us through are simply amazing at doing the teaching and pushing forward that andragogical mindset within us. We're encouraged to take ownership of our learning. Ultimately, I think what we put into it is what we take out of it.”
TDM’s Performance and Development Coaches help learners to develop within areas such as confidence, time management and any additional support they may require. Talking about his Performance and Development coach, Oscar shares “being that advocate on the apprenticeship side, giving me advice in terms of goals to pursue, always constantly trying to stretch me, making me go farther, take that step further, that's been massively valuable to me.”
“I think that understanding by TDM of what's going on at the workplace, how people are developing, what struggles or challenges they might be facing, I think really sets them apart as a training provider.”
