This year, Lifelong Learning Week runs from November 8th to November 12th and is an annual week of activity taking place across England, bringing together work from across Learning and Work Institute and beyond, run by the Festival of Learning.
Lifelong learning is described as 'the concept of pursuing additional education and the development of further skills beyond an individual's formal or compulsory education'. This can be anything from learning a new skill or teaching yourself a new language to completing an apprenticeship or vocational course.
Apprenticeships can be a great way to upskill or reskill yourself at any point in your life. They are not only a great way to take the next step in your career, allowing you to gain a qualification whilst working a full time job and earning, but also provide and generate long term career success by combining work based learning and experience.Whether you decide you want to reskill and change the field you work in or upskill and gain qualifications to help progress in your career, Apprenticeships can help you.
You may hear the myth that 'apprenticeships are only available for school leavers' but this is definitely not true. In fact, anyone over the age of 16 can complete an apprenticeship and there is no upper age limit. Between August 2020 and April 2021, 49.6% of apprenticeship starts were people aged 25+.Apprenticeships can be a great way to upskill or reskill yourself at any point in your life.
