The speed of change in Tech & Digital Skills is always exponential, but right now this change is disruptive.
A raft of incoming technologies are going to fundamentally change the way we work (Generative AI, Agentic AI and Automation, AR/VR, 5G, IoT and more). As business leaders, it is time for us to seriously rethink our next generation workforce skills. To these ends, The Department for Education fund The Development Manager (TDM) to deliver:
· Skills Bootcamps,
· Apprenticeships and
· Degree Apprenticeships
Digital transformation
To effectively digitally transform, your organisation needs to develop the skills, not only of your new recruits, but also to provoke and challenge – and retain - your existing, talented employees.
Disruptive technologies are giving us serious challenges over how we develop our workforce and how to approach our everyday business functions. Who, in YOUR team, is looking seriously at how these technologies are going to disrupt the way you work? Are you missing opportunities? Who is researching, taking the responsibility for applying and then reflecting on how to improve those new technologies?
We've got two options as business leaders – watch what everybody else does or start engaging in this thought process now. If you're a business leader, you need to be thinking about making digital transformation a normal ongoing process within your employer organisation.
Performance Competence
TDM’s employer partner clients describe us as a “skills first” training provider. What they mean by this is that:
· instead of telling you what we think you need to know about the skills, knowledge and behaviours for each apprenticeship programme,
· we instead ask you as the employer organisation, what the performance competence is in the job role that the apprentice is currently engaged in. What matters most to YOU (not to us) in terms of the tasks and outputs needed from this employee?
It’s then incumbent upon TDM to reverse engineer the requirements of the apprenticeship standard into your own employer-unique impacts.
