"I now have certainty in the industry that I am in."

"I feel I am in the role that I should be in and I can now springboard into so many new and exciting opportunities within my industry and with my employer."

Connor enrolled onto our Get Ahead in Digital Transformation Programme which led him to start his Infrastructure Technician Level 3 Apprenticeship. We virtually met up with Connor to hear his story so far.

What were you doing at the point in your life when you enrolled onto the Get Ahead in Digital Transformation Programme?

COVID really affected the point in my life that I was at. I was at college, but things were not moving as I had hoped, therefore I started looking at apprenticeships. I applied with TDM, was invited to an Applicant Day and there I found our about the Get Ahead in Digital Transformation Programme and new this would really help me on my way.

Why did you think the Get Ahead in Digital Transformation Programme would be a good choice for your career?

It is increasingly difficult right now to compete with people for IT roles, so you need to be a cut above the rest and constantly evolving your skillset to be a relevant and up to date IT Technician. This is exactly what the programme supplied me with and allowed me to work towards.

How did you find the programme itself?

I found the programme super Interesting and helpful. There are lots of resources available which means it’s all at your fingertips constantly. The resources and process is easy to follow and enables you to keep working through and everything is readily available to you.The GROW coaching is really helpful, it is so great to have an expert coach to check in with. My coach was Mel and I had full trust in her as a coach.

Did it provide you with relevant, industry knowledge within the areas you chose to study?

Yes, the programme provided me with extremely relevant and up to date knowledge which I am still utilising and implementing in my apprenticeship now.

What are you doing now? Are you building from knowledge the programme provided you with?

I am pleased to say I have now moved onto my Infrastructure Technician Level 3 Apprenticeship with The Chase School.Yes, I am still building from and putting the knowledge from the programme into practice in my role

How does it feel to now be operating in a tech & digital role?

I now have certainty in the industry that I am in. I feel I am in the role that I should be in and I can now springboard into so many new and exciting opportunities within my industry and with my employer.I can see moments where I am adding value and gaining impact in my apprenticeship, I can see that I am lifting weights off people’s shoulders as an ITL3.

Would you recommend the programme to someone else?

Yes, I would, but only if you are dedicated, driven, good at self-structuring and have the ability to time manage and want to work towards a career defining goal.

What does the future have in store for you?

I want to successfully complete my current apprenticeship. My GROW coach and myself also have discussed potential paths forwards in my career, a very handy plan to remind me that I will have lots of options at the end of my apprenticeship.
