Have you considered employing an apprentice for your business? As an apprenticeship training provider, we understand that it can seem like a daunting business move, however, we make the process simple so that both an employer and an apprentice can experience the benefits of specific apprenticeships.

At TDM, we specialise in delivering apprenticeships through genuine work-based learning, offering tailored apprenticeship programmes to meet your business needs.

Whether you are looking to recruit a data analyst, software developer marketing apprentice or anything in between, you can find everything you need to know in this article.

Key Things to Know About Employing an Apprentice

What do the Different Apprenticeship Levels Mean for Your Business?

Apprenticeships are structured training programmes that combine practical work experience with academic learning. They are available at various levels, from intermediate (Level 2) to degree apprenticeships (Levels 6 and 7), catering to different organisational requirements. If you are looking to hire an apprentice, it is important to explore the various levels and what these mean for your business. For instance, a Level 2 apprentice will typically be new to the field and just beginning to develop their skills, whereas a degree apprentice will engage with more advanced and complex areas of study.

As an award-winning apprenticeship provider in the West Midlands, our team at TDM work closely with each employer to thoroughly understand your needs and requirements to then pair you with the best-suited apprentice.

What are the Benefits of Hiring an Apprentice?

Improved Workforce Productivity

Apprentices bring fresh energy and a willingness to learn, often leading to increased productivity. They can take on tasks that free up experienced staff to focus on more complex responsibilities, ultimately enhancing the overall efficiency of your team.

Cost-Effective Staffing Solution

Apprenticeships offer a cost-effective way to bring in new talent. Employers benefit from lower wage expectations for apprentices, along with substantial government funding and incentives to support training costs. This makes apprenticeships an attractive option for businesses seeking to grow their workforce without incurring significant financial strain.

Innovation and Fresh Perspectives

Apprentices often bring new ideas and up-to-date knowledge from their training, which can help your business stay competitive. When you choose to recruit an apprentice with TDM, your business can stay ahead of the competition and be up-to-date with new skills and knowledge.

Tailored Skill Development

Hiring an apprentice allows you to shape their training to meet the specific needs of your business. Unlike hiring experienced staff, apprentices can be moulded from the start, learning the unique processes and practices of your organisation. This ensures that they develop the exact skills and knowledge required to excel in their roles.

Access to Government Incentives and Funding

The UK government offers various financial incentives to encourage employers to take on apprentices. At TDM, we can detail the cost of hiring an apprentice and discuss the funding options available to employers.

How do I Hire an Apprentice?

When you choose us as the apprenticeship training provider, employing an apprentice is simple.

Identify Your Needs: Assess your business to determine where an apprentice could add value. Consider areas with skill shortages or opportunities for growth.

Choose the Right Apprenticeship Programme: Select a programme that aligns with your industry and the specific role you aim to fill. At TDM, we offer a range of tech and digital apprenticeship programmes, including Data Analyst, Network Engineer, Cyber Security Technologist, and Software Developer apprenticeships.

Find a Training Provider: We are an award-winning apprenticeship provider based in Worcester, but we work with businesses in the West Midlands and beyond. We are an Ofsted-monitored provider, ensuring high-quality training and support for employers and candidates.

Find the Right Candidate: Evaluate applicants to find the best fit for your organisation. Consider their enthusiasm, willingness to learn, and alignment with your company culture.

What is Your Responsibility as an Employer?

  • When you recruit an apprentice, employers must commit to 6 hours of off-the-job training per week.
  • Learners will be required to have a mentor in the workplace, this is to show them the ropes and monitor their progress throughout the 18 months.
  • Employer/Mentor to keep track of targets set for your apprentice. The candidate’s performance will then be communicated to our mentors at TDM, to ensure the apprentice is fulfilling their duties for your business.

Why Choose TDM When Employing an Apprentice?

Flexible Start Dates

One of our standout features is our roll-on, roll-off model, which provides great flexibility. Unlike many other providers, we don’t restrict you to fixed-term start dates. This means you can onboard a Level 4 Data Analyst Apprentice at a time that suits your business needs, without unnecessary delays.

Two Coach Approach

We take a comprehensive approach to apprentice development through our unique Two-Coach Model. Each apprentice benefits from the guidance of a Skills and Knowledge Coach, who focuses on technical and industry-specific skills, and a Performance and Development Coach, who supports their personal growth and workplace performance. This dual support system ensures apprentices are well-rounded, continually improving, and fully aligned with your business goals throughout the programme.
